A Fort Smith resident has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
The individual contracted the virus when travelling outside of the territory.
According to health officials, the person is isolating and doing well.
The diagnosis comes on the same day the territorial government launched a renewed push to increase vaccination rates in the territory.
As of July 31, 77 per cent of NWT residents were partially vaccinated, and 72 per cent fully vaccinated.
“Evidence is showing that the Delta variant of COVID-19 is becoming more common in Canada and that COVID-19 is shifting to a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated’,” reads a public health notice. “Those who are not protected are at higher risk.”
The office of the chief public health officer has not identified any public risk at this time.
