Dr. Kami Kandola, chief public health officer, has removed her orders of mandatory masking in indoor public spaces for Behchokǫ̀, Ndilǫ, Dettah and Yellowknife.
The order had been in place since May 17, around the time the COVID-19 outbreak related to N.J. Macpherson School.
Kandola declared that outbreak to be over on June 14.
“The order requiring mandatory masking in indoor public spaces in these four communities was kept in place an additional two weeks as an extra measure until the school year was over to help prevent the spread of the virus and keep our communities healthy and safe,” reads a news release.
While masking up is no longer mandatory, the chief public health officer is recommending wearing one when required by businesses, when in crowded spaces, or spaces with poor ventilation.
