RCMP believe 44-year-old Steven Theriault was at the wheel of a car that ended up upside down near Highway 3 last Wednesday.
A young woman from Behchokǫ̀ died in the crash.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for Theriault and are requesting the public’s help in finding him.
RCMP say Theriault is one of two people who left the scene of the crash. Responding officers found the car 150 feet off the highway.
In a news release, police say they also want to “ensure Theriault gets medical attention as it is believed he sustained injuries as a result of the incident.”
It adds, “While While RCMP believe Steven Theriault may still be in the Northwest Territories, he may also have departed for Alberta.”
They describe him as a First Nations male, 5’8” (177 cm), 230 lbs. (105 kg) with black hair and brown eyes.
