Yellowknife is to host its own vigil for the victims of last week’s mosque massacres in Christchurch, New Zealand.

It’s being hosted by the ISNA-Canada Islamic Centre of Yellowknife and will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 outside the Islamic Centre on Franklin Avenue at the bottom of the Old Town hill.

According to a Facebook post it’s being called ‘Love and Solidarity:  Sombe K’e Vigil for Christchurch.

The post states that all are welcome.

“We are holding this peaceful vigil following the horrific armed attack at Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday March 15th, 2019,” the post states. “Friday afternoon’s politically, religiously and racially motivated terrorist attack in Christchurch represents an extreme manifestation of ideological hatred towards the NZ Muslim Community and has resulted in immense suffering and pain.”

The death toll was up to 50 as of Monday following the attack carried out last week by an Australian white supremacist.
