Two jail guards suspended at NSCC pending sex allegations probe

CKLB News has learned that two jail guards at the North Slave Correction Centre (NSCC) in Yellowknife have been suspended with pay pending the outcome of an investigation into their alleged sexual misconduct at the facility.

Martin Goldney, deputy minister of justice, the department that oversees all the territory’s jails, confirmed that information Friday.

He chose not to comment further on the situation at this time.

That followed an email earlier this week from a justice department spokesperson who stated that the territorial government does not comment on personnel issues.

Through a news report earlier this week, it was learned that a lawsuit will be launched against the territorial government over alleged sexual relationships between two corrections officers and a male inmate who has since been released from the jail.

Lawyer Steven Cooper reportedly says his client says he was asked to perform sexual acts for the guards and was given money through email transfers several times by one of them.

Cooper alleges the GNWT is responsible for harm done to his client while an inmate at the North Slave Correctional Complex.
