Successful 2017 for De Beers Will Help Keep Mining Jobs

De Beers Canada has had a successful year and are featured in Anglo American’s 2017 year end results.

Much of the company’s success is driven by northern mine sites, which this year saw a high level of safety performance and carat production.

In it’s first year, Gahcho Kue exceeded production expectations – yielding nearly 4-million carats of diamonds. De Beers CEO Kim Truter says northerners will benefit from this with continued job stability.

“What Gahcho Kue has now proven is it’s a winner. What that means for people of the north is there’s continued employment for the next ten or twelve years and hopefully longer. The north needs stability around these mines and Gahcho Kue will provide that.”

Truter and De Beers expect a successful 2018 from Gahcho Kue.
