Students from St. Patrick’s High School in Yellowknife formed a human food brigade from the school to the Salvation Army building on Franklin Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Hundreds if not thousands of pounds of food were boxed up and passed hand-to-hand from enthusiastic students down the hill and across Yellowknife’s main street while municipal enforcement officers blocked off the street to traffic.

Students, including the school mascot, did not view their good deed as a chore and they smiled and celebrated while the brigade operated.

Jason Brinson, church leader at the Salvation Army, says the food will be used to help people in need, particularly at Christmas time but also throughout the year.

“We’re very thankful at St. Patrick’s School for all that they do,” said Brinson.
