Sport North is touring the NWT this month looking for athletes to participate in the 2017 Canada Games.
Sport North will be scouting for boys and girls with their head coaches for soccer.
They will be selecting a large number of athletes.
They start the tour in Inuvik, and make their way to Hay River.
Then end up in the final destination, in Yellowknife.
Executive Director from Sports North, Lyric Sandhals, says when they will be in travelling to each town.
“So the first one is in Inuvik June 10th to the 12th, Hay River from June 17th to the 19th, and then Yellowknife is July 1st to 3rd. From those camps players will be selected to come to the final selection camp which will be in Yellowknife September 2nd to the 4th.”
Sandhals says Team NWT placed 6th in both males and females at the 2015 Western Canada Games.
Some of the players will be eligible to play for Team NWT again.
But they are not a shoe in.
“People move to the North, things change so we just open up the selections again for 2017, to see if kids have grown, have they matured, are there people we missed in previous camps, just seeing who’s out there.” said Sandhals.
The 2017 Canada Summer games will be hosted in Winnipeg, and it will be the 50th anniversary of the games.
