RCMP charge 16-year-old after gun incident near Yk library

A 16-year-old boy faces charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and mischief after a gun call this week near the Yellowknife Public Library.

Mounties responded to a call about a person with a firearm Wednesday afternoon.

The set up a perimeter near the library and evacuated the area.

The boy was then arrested without incident and a replica handgun was seized.

No shots were fired and no one was hurt.

It’s not clear whether Mounties ever drew their guns.

The youth is charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and mischief.

“This shows the serious consequences related to firearms, whether real or replica. Persons should exercise caution and follow the guidelines for safe storage and transport of all firearms.” stated civilian RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon in a news release. “We are thankful this incident ended quickly and safely.”
