Health and Social Services Glen Abernethy is to be on hand Thursday afternoon for the launch of the new foster parent recruitment campaign at the Legislative Assembly.
The Foster Family Coalition of the NWT (FFCNWT) will be revealing details of a fresh strategy to recruit new foster and adoptive parents across the NWT.
The initiative is being done in collaboration with the Department of Health and Social Services.
Headed by the catchphrase “We need you”, the FFCNWT wants to send the message that prospective foster and adoptive families will not begin their journey as foster or adoptive parents completely alone.
In fact, in a news release, officials state that they will become a part of a large team that is working together to ensure children are receiving consistent and quality care with a goal of reunification and permanency.
The coalition states that it is important to have more foster and adoptive families in the NWT so children have the chance to find a placement that suits them best when they need one.
The recruitment strategy involves various forms of media that will be disseminated across the territory.
NWT residents may come across: a new “We need you” promotional video, a recruitment flyer sent to their home, recruitment posters found in every community in the territory and online advertisements.
Thursday’s launch takes place at 1:15pm in the Great Hall.
