N’dilo Grandmother goes on trial for drug charges

The NWT Supreme Court drug trafficking trial for a N’dilo grandmother is to begin Monday morning with jury selection in Yellowknife.
Vitaline Lafferty is facing several charges including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Lafferty, along with Mary Ann Lafferty, also of N’dilo, were initially charged in April, 2016 after a traffic stop near Fort Providence allegedly found them in possession of marijuana, cocaine, liquid codeine, and over one thousand fentanyl pills.

They are to be tried together.

They were arrested as part of the RCMP’s massive drug sweep code named project Green Manalishi.

The Laffertys are among the last of the suspects to go on trial.

Most of the people charged in the drug sweep have already pleaded guilty and been sentenced.
