Mounties make large liquor seizure near Fort Mac

RCMP have made a large bootleg liquor seizure while conducting traffic stops on the Dempster Highway near Fort McPherson.

According to a news release from the Mounties at 2:30 in the morning, back on November 30th, officers observed a vehicle driving suspiciously on the highway and pulled it over.

Police say the driver appeared to have stopped on the side of the road when he or she noticed the marked police vehicle.

Officers searched the surrounding area and located multiple bags full of liquor near where the vehicle stopped.

Police seized 96 – 375 millilitre bottles of vodka, 36 – 750 millilitre bottles of vodka and 63 cans of beer.

RCMP say no charges have been laid to date.

They are continuing their investigation and say that no further information regarding the identity of the persons involved can be released at this time.

Fort McPherson places a limit on the amount of liquor that a person may possess under the NWT Liquor Act.
