Mounties look for public’s help as they investigate ‘suspicious death’ in Behchoko

The NWT RCMP Major Crimes Unit is asking for the public’s help as officers continue to investigate what they describe as a suspicious death in Behchoko.

In a news release issued Wednesday, police state that about 1:00 in the afternoon Monday, a man was found unresponsive and was transported to the Behchoko Health Centre where he was declared deceased.

RCMP have not said exactly where he was found.

Mounties are now asking local residents to come forward with any observations they would have witnessed on Monday between the hours of 8:00 and 11:00 am
in the residential area near the Kǫ Go Cho Complex.

“There could be person, or persons, who may have seen something suspicious in the morning of Monday, April 8. We are asking the residents of Behchoko to report any suspicious or unusual activity to help our investigators” states Marie York-Condon, civilian RCMP spokesperson.

RCMP say they are working with NWT Coroner Service in an investigation into the suspicious death.

The name of the victim has not been officially released by police or the coroner.

The investigation is in early stages with no further information at this time, as officers conduct the investigation, state RCMP.
