A sentencing hearing in Fort Liard for a youth who was convicted of manslaughter in the death of a 12-year-old girl has been adjourned due to bad weather in Fort Liard.

The boy’s lawyer tells CKLB that the hearing, which was scheduled for Wednesday, will now be held in Yellowknife on December 27th.

The girl’s body was discovered near the river in Fort Liard in October 2015.

Evidence at trial showed the girl was drinking alcohol the night she died.

Forensic testing showed that she had been sexually assaulted the same night.

The boy – who was 13 at the time along with a 14-year old youth – shared a 26 counce bottle of vodka with the girl and then left her while she was unconscious.
