Man arrested with replica handgun near Yellowknife Public Library

A man has been arrested after RCMP responded to a report of a male with a gun Tuesday afternoon near the Yellowknife Public Library on 49 St.

According to a news release from the Mounties, officers responded to a report of a possible armed man at about 4:00 pm.

Police say they contained a perimeter around the library, and as officers were evacuating the area, the male suspect was located and arrested without incident.

RCMP also seized a replica handgun.

They say the entire incident lasted about 15 minutes and that no shots were ever fired and there are no reports of injuries.

It’s not clear whether any officers ever drew their gun.

Police have not released the man’s name nor said what, if anything, he is charged with.
