People across the Northwest Territories are mourning the death of former Dettah Chief Isadore Tsetta.

According to a Facebook message from family friend and former reporter Roy Dahl, whose wife is Tsetta’s niece, Tsetta passed away Sunday just before noon, peacefully in his sleep at Stanton Territorial Hospital.

He had been taken to the hospital a few days earlier after reportedly collapsing in his home.

He had been active member of the community and a member of the YKDFN elders senate.

Tsetta was often seen enjoying a cup of tea at Red Apple restaurant or A & W.

Dahl says Tsetta was 93 years old.

He was the chief of Dettah from 1979 to 1987.

Former N’dilo chief Ted Tsetta is among his children.

CKLB extends condolences to Isadore Tsetta’s family and friends.
