A fire on the 10th or 11th floor of the Hay River Highrise apartment building is now out.

That’s according to Hay River MLA R.J. Simpson who called CKLB from the scene.

He says there was still what appears to be steam pouring from the floor at about 3:00pm.

Simpson believes fire crews were able to access the fire from inside the building.

At this point there are no reports of any injuries.

The fire reportedly broke out early in the afternoon.

A cause has yet to be determined.

The building, which is home to roughly 100-150 residents has been evacuated and evacuees are currently gathering at the arena.

That’s according to the town’s deputy mayor Robert Bouchard.

CKLB will update this story with more details as they become available.

The apartment fire could not have come at a worse time for the community as fire crews have been battling a stubborn fire at the town’s landfill site for close to two weeks.
