Chilly start for Deh Gah Christmas Dog Sled Races

The visiting mushers and dogs from Streeper Kennels held onto their lead Sunday taking first and second place at the 7th Deh Gah Christmas Dog Sled Races in Fort Providence.

Fort Smiths’ Matt Poitras also held onto third place with a strong finish on Sunday.

Here’s a breakdown of the official times from the 6 and 12 dog races courtesy of Susan Fleck and Danny Beaulieu:

Fort Providence’s Melody Rasmussen won the 6 Dog Race. It’s her first major win since 2016.

The forecast for Sunday was cool and clear with a Wind chill of minus 31 in the morning, but it did warm up to a high of minus 16.
