After six years as Aurora College president, Jane Arychuk has resigned effective May 31st.

Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Caroline Cochrane has announced that Jeff O’Keefe, vice president of student affairs at the college, will assume the role of interim president until a permanent replacement is found.

Arychuk began as interim president herself back in 2012.

She also spent seven years as director of the Yellowknife North Slave campus.

Prior to joining the Fort Smith-based college Arychyk was a community educator and principal in Fort Providence for more than two decades.

It is unclear whether a government-ordered foundational review of the college’s policies and procedures has anything to do with Arychuk’s sudden departure.

That review is expected to be tabled and debated in the Legislative Assembly which resumes sitting Thursday.

It will be a relatively short session – just seven days – before MLAs take a break for the summer.
