New modular homes on their way to Fort Providence
10 single occupant homes are being delivered, as part of a much larger project from Housing NWT
Ten new modular housing units are being delivered to Fort Providence as part of a larger housing project across the NWT.
Housing NWT has been working to deliver duplexes and fourplexes designed for singles to nine communities by Spring 2028, with a focus on single occupants and Elders. The goal is to deliver a total of 98 new homes to communities that have been determined to be lacking available housing for singles.

In Fort Providence, most of the households on the social housing waitlist are seeking one-bedroom units, making these homes a good match for current community needs.
Lucy Kuptana, the Minister responsible for Housing NWT, said that she is “excited to see more homes from the 98-unit project leaving Hay River. Getting these five duplexes on the road to Fort Providence is another important step toward delivering much-needed housing in the community. These homes will provide more options for single, low-income residents and help address the housing needs identified in communities across the territory.”
The majority of these homes are being manufactured in Hay River, and then being shipped off to the target communities as a way to make the process faster and more efficient. The other target communities are Tuktoyaktuk, Inuvik, Délı̨nę, Tulita, Behchokǫ̀, Fort Simpson, Ulukhaktok, and Fort Smith.
This work is part of a three-year, $150-million capital investment by the Government of the Northwest Territories in response to the 20th Legislative Assembly’s priority to increase the number of affordable homes across the territory.
