Two people charged following Fort Smith shooting
The three victims are all in stable condition, though one is expected to have lasting injuries, say RCMP
Two people have been charged with the shooting that occurred in Fort Smith over the weekend.
22-year-old Sheldon Tan from Calgary has been charged with:
- Three counts of Aggravated Assault
- Assault with a weapon
- Discharging a Firearm with intent
- Possession of a Controlled Substance for the purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Property obtained by Crime
The investigation into this shooting has determined that it took place after a brief altercation where bear spray was used outside of a local bar.
The individual who used the bear spray, 21-year-old Durrel Courtoreille from Edmonton, has been charged with:
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
Both suspects have made appearances in court and have been returned to police custody. One other person was arrested, but was later released without charges.
The three victims of this shooting have been transported out of the Territory for medical treatment, though all of them are reported to be in stable condition, and expected to make recoveries. One victim is said to have received “life-altering” injuries.
The Fort Smith RCMP will be taking witness statements until 9pm on Monday evening.
