Near pound of crack cocaine seized in Norman Wells; Fort Good Hope woman charged
RCMP say a public tip about a suspected drug trafficker resulted in arrest at airport
The RCMP in Norman Wells recently claimed nearly a whole pound of crack-cocaine and charged one person after they were informed of trafficking activity.
The tip from the public came in on July 31st. Local officers were told that an individual who was known to be involved in drug trafficking in the past would be travelling through Norman Wells on their way to Fort Good Hope.
Officers arrived at the airport and located the individual. During their investigation, officers formed grounds enough to detain the suspect, where they then found around 437 grams (0.96 pounds) of crack-cocaine and other drug supplies.
The suspect, 34-year-old Marie Erutse from Fort Good Hope, has been charged with:
- Trafficking a controlled substance,
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking,
- Possession of a controlled substance,
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000,
- Opening, consuming or using liquor during transport,
- Possessing liquor at an unlawful place
She appeared in court for a bail hearing and was returned to custody. Erutse already has one drug-related charge for an incident in April of 2025.
