Two men arrested for drug trafficking in Norman Wells
The two suspects were arrested at the local airport, where one of them was found with over $5k and a machete.
Two people have been arrested in Norman Wells following a drug investigation.
Local officers were informed on May 31st by a member of the public about multiple people who were traveling from Fort Good Hope, and were suspected to be involved in drug activity. One of the suspects was already the subject of an arrest warrant in Alberta for several other offences, including unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Officers gathered at the Norman Wells airport and arrested the suspects. A search of their belongings discovered more than $5,000 in cash and a machete.
31-year-old Diego Ellis from British Columbia has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
A 37-year-old man from Fort Good Hope was arrested for his outstanding warrant from Alberta, and has not received any additional charges.
Both men are being held for bail hearings, and the second man has been sent to Alberta to face his existing charges. Diego Ellis has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
The Norman Wells RCMP have taken this opportunity to highlight the disruption this case has caused to the drug trade in the area, all thanks to a tip from a member of the public. They encourage anyone who may have relevant information on drug trafficking to share it with them at the earliest opportunity.
