Last week Deh Cho Leadership came together to discuss important topics for Deh Cho First Nations members, following a Deh Cho Process Negotiations meeting at the end of March that was held in Lı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́, Fort Simpson.

In an interview with CKLB last week Grand Chief Herb Norwegian said that “what we’re trying to do is trying to get some major agreements on some big issues that in our interim measures agreements and the framework agreement negotiations.”

Negotiation sat at the sideline for about five years,” said Grand Chief Norwegian “and when I came on board, you know, we got instructions to get negotiations back on track, and so I was able to do that.

After hearing positive feedback from Minister Rebecca Alty at the Deh Cho Assembly last year, held in Fort Liard, on reaching an Agreement in Principle by this year, Norwegian said that they have worked to engage in more meetings to expedite this process.

“We’re able to do that so for the last five, months or so meeting,” said Norwegian. “We’ve been having meetings roughly every month, and so that has put us in a good position to start cleaning up some of this.”

Meetings have been scheduled to continue into Summer 2026 between the Dehcho First Nation, Territorial and Federal offices.
