Construction has wrapped up on a new social housing unit in the community of Paulatuk.

The duplex was built in order to replace existing homes that were approaching the end of their service lives. The new unit will be better able to address the housing needs of the community.

Many of the materials were constructed before they were shipped out to Paulatuk, which led to a much faster assembly time.

This investment supports the GNWT mandate commitment to increase the suitability, accessibility and affordability of housing across the territory.

Lucy Kuptana, the Minister Responsible for Housing NWT, spoke on the impact projects like this can have.

In a small, remote community on the Arctic coast like Paulatuk, even one new housing project can make a difference.” she stated.

“The completion of this new modular duplex is an achievement worth recognizing as we continue to deliver more homes for Northerners. These new homes help families remain rooted in the community they call home and ensure access to safe, comfortable housing built for northern conditions”

The method of pre-assembly is part of the GNWT’s new strategy on providing safer and suitable housing solutions in smaller and more remote communities.
