Tuktoyaktuk man fined for bootlegging out of his own home
Police noticed suspicious activity near a local residence, and later found up to 12 litres of vodka
A resident of Tuktoyaktuk was recently revealed to be illegally keeping and selling excess amounts of alcohol.
While performing standard patrols around the community on April 7th, local officers noticed suspicious activity around a residence, which looked consistent with signs of bootlegging. An investigation into the residence was launched soon after.
Under the regulations of the Liquor Act, officers were given permission to search the residence. Their investigation uncovered 12 litres of vodka, an amount that is well above what is permitted to be held by individuals in the community. Officers believe that even more vodka was sold away before their search.
The culprit was a 59-year-old man. He was given summary offence tickets for keeping liquor for sale, and possession of spirits exceeding 2280ml.
The man is set to appear in Tuktoyaktuk court on June 2nd.
