Tłı̨chǫ Government launches new Giant Minds scholarship

The Tłı̨chǫ Government has just introduced a new scholarship for its citizens.

Known as the Giant Minds Scholarship Program and valued at $2,000 each, these scholarships are designed to assist Tłı̨chǫ citizens who are pursuing a Red Seal Trades Certification, or other pos-secondary degree.

Fifteen of these scholarships are available. In order to be eligible, an applicant must be a Tłı̨chǫ citizen living in the NWT who has been accepted into a Red Seal Trades or post-secondary program. The scholarship program will be administered by the Tłı̨chǫ WORKS unit of the Mine Training Society in Yellowknife on behalf of the Tłı̨chǫ Government. A Selection Committee, comprised of Mine Training Society Staff and representatives from the Tłı̨chǫ Government’s Post-Secondary Education Committee will review and select the winning applicants.

Applications for the scholarship can be sent in immediately, and will be accepted until Friday, June 17^th, at 4pm. Applications can be made directly with the Mine Training Society in Yellowknife by calling 888-765-0445, or by sending an email to mts@minetraining.ca.

Grand Chief Jackson Lafferty shared a quick statement on the new scholarships, saying “This new post secondary pathway supports the development of knowledge and critical skills needed by the Tłı̨chǫ Nation and the Northwest Territories. We are building capacity in our Nation’s workforce and this is an investment in our citizens towards steps that lead to Tłı̨chǫ self-sufficiency.”
