Yellowknife RCMP recently apprehended a man who was the subject of a nation-wide arrest warrant.

Local officers received a tip from a member of the public on the evening of March 10th that 22-year-old Gaige Forrest had been spotted entering a taxi. Officers were able to locate the taxi and conducted a traffic stop.

Forrest was arrested without incident, and was found to be in possession of about 24 grams of cocaine, a small amount of prescription drugs, and $820 in cash.

The Canada-wide arrest warrant placed on Forrest was due to a parole violation. Forrest was placed on parole after he was released from custody while serving a sentence for several violent firearms offences.

He has now been charged with:

  • Being unlawfully at large
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime.

Forrest was held for a bail hearing, and has been returned to police custody.
