Five people arrested in home invasion investigation

RCMP have spent several weeks searching for the four masked culprits who broke into a home searching for its occupant

The investigation into a home invasion that took place in Fort Providence has resulted in multiple people being arrested.

The incident took place on the evening of February 24th. Around 11:20pm, local officers were informed that four masked individuals had broken into a home and were searching for an occupant. One of the intruders was armed with a rifle, but the person they were searching for was not present at the time.

While this incident took place on the 24th, it had not been reported until the 25th.

An investigation into this matter was launched, and several suspects have been arrested over the course of several weeks.

On February 25th, 32-year-old Westlin Sabourin was arrested and is being charged with Breaking and Entering, and Failure to comply with a release order condition. Sabourin was held for a bail hearing and has been returned to custody.

On March 4th, 34-year-old Adrian Farcy was arrested, and has been charged with Breaking and Entering. Farcy was also held for a bail hearing, and has been released to appear in court at a later date.

The investigation continued into March 6th, when the Fort Providence RCMP, with the help of the G Division Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, carried out a search warrant at a local residence in relation to the home invasion. Officers were able to find a long gun, and imitation firearm, and a small amount of ammunition.

As part of the search, a 29-year-old man was arrested, and was released on Undertaking conditions to appear in court at a later date. This man’s charges have not yet been officially sworn, so his name is being withheld.

Another arrest was made during the search. That of a 54-year-old woman, who is now facing a charge for unsafe storage of a firearm. She is not believed to be involved in the home invasion.

The final arrest in this case was made on March 7th, when officers took 28-year-old Jeff Canadien into custody. He has been charged with breaking and entering, possession of a weapon contrary to a weapons prohibition order, and Possession of a prohibited weapon while knowing possession is unauthorized. Canadien was held for a bail hearing, and has been returned to custody.

The investigation into this matter continues. This incident is believed to be a part of the local drug trade, as many of the people involved are known to each other.
