A beloved Yellowknife event is a few steps closer to its goals after receiving some additional support.

Every year, CIBC partners with the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation to put together the “Run for Our Lives” mud run. This event sees many city residents and guests gather together at a walking trail and take part in a small obstacle course, usually getting covered in mud in the process.

The event has been a Yellowknife staple since 2004, and since then, has raised upwards of $2 million for cancer care services and equipment at the Stanton Territorial Hospital. Over the years, the event has helped to pay for a digital mammography machine in 2011, supported the establishment of a Cancer Care Coordinator position, and several other patient-focused programs at the hospital.

While the announcement is just being made now, the Stanton Foundation has shared that the Run for Our Lives Committee has received a $100,000 commitment from CIBC, renewing their support for the Mud Run event.

The current goals of the Committee are $200,000 for a pair of Automated Endoscope Reprocessors, $400,000 for a Breast Ultrasound Machine, and $5,000 for a Colposcope Examination Chair.

Tanya Kearney, the Chair of the Run for Our Lives Committee said in a statement that they are “incredibly grateful for CIBC’s continued leadership and commitment. As we work to complete our current campaign and purchase these important pieces of equipment, this four-year commitment will have a meaningful and lasting impact on cancer care in the North.”

The 2026 CIBC Mud Run will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2026, at the Yellowknife Ski Club, continuing its mission of bringing the community together in support of accessible, high-quality cancer care.
