Yellowknife man arrested break-in to into hotel banquet hall

This was the suspect's second alleged crime that day, after a theft at Shopper's Drug Mart that morning, say police

A suspect was arrested by the RCMP after forcing his way into the Chateau Nova hotel late Tuesday night.

The incident was reported just after 11:30 pm on Tuesday, February 17th.

RCMP were informed that a man had broken into the hotel and made his way to the banquet hall.

An investigation was launched immediately, with the RCMP receiving help from the G Division Forensic Identification Services Unit.

A  suspect was identified and police were able to locate him about an hour later, and arrest him at an apartment building without incident.

A 31-year-old Yellowknife man was arrested and it was discovered he was on three probation orders.

Each order was issued as a result of previous burglary offences.

The man was also charged in connection with a theft at Independent Grocer on February 12th, and was also sought by police after committing a theft at Shoppers Drug Mart on the morning of February 17th.

This suspect is facing a total of ten charges:

  • Three counts of theft under $5,000.
  • Six counts of failure to comply with a probation order.
  • Breaking and entering.

The suspect remains in police custody while he awaits fa bail hearing.
