Stolen car full of crack busted en route to Behchokǫ̀
Man on bail, prohibited from driving, now faces several charges after RCMP finds him at Yellowknife gas station
Police in Yellowknife arrested two individuals after recovering a stolen vehicle on Saturday, loaded with crack cocaine.
On December 6th, Yellowknife RCMP received information that two individuals were travelling to Behchokǫ̀ to deliver drugs in a vehicle, stated a release.
Officers located the vehicle in question at a gas station in Yellowknife and were able to take both occupants into custody without incident.
The vehicle, which had been reported stolen to police on December 3rd, was searched and approximately 292 grams of suspected crack-cocaine were seized.
As a result, 33-year-old Joshua Desjarlais of Yellowknife, who was already out on bail at the time of his arrest, has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking;
- Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited; and
- Failure to comply with release order conditions.
He appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody.
The second individual, a 37-year-old female, was released to appear in court at a later date. As her charges have not yet been formally sworn in court, her name cannot be released at this time.
