An Inuvik man is appearing in court today for the second-degree murder of an individual in the community.

The incident took place on Thursday, October 30th, and was reported around 9:30pm. Inuvik officers responded to a business on Industrial Road, where they found a single person had been killed.

Also at the scene, they found the lone suspect, 45-year-old Kenneth Campbell. Campbell was taken into custody without incident.

Following the investigation, Campbell has been charged with one count of second-degree murder. As the police believe this is a case of intimate partner violence, they are classifying this case as femicide, or the deliberate targeting of women and girls, usually by male suspects.

Cambell is appearing in Yellowknife court today at 1:30pm. The investigation into this case continues, and is being led by the G Division RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit.
