City of Yellowknife building partnerships for recreation
The MOU is a step towards building spaces that bring people together
Yellowknife’s new pool will soon have an official name.
It was recently announced that the City of Yellowknife, NAKA Power Utilities, and ATCO have come together with a Memorandum of Understanding to soon decide upon a name for the city’s new pool. The Aquatic Centre, as well as the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool, Community Arena, Curling Club, and outdoor tennis courts are now all considered part of the NAKA Community District.
In a statement released earlier this week, Mayor Ben Hendrikson said that “Recreation has always been at the heart of life in Yellowknife. These are the spaces where we celebrate milestones, build friendships, and nurture the next generation.
“By exploring this opportunity with ATCO and Naka Power Utilities (NWT), we’re looking ahead to the future, ensuring these facilities remain vibrant, inclusive, and able to meet the needs of a growing city. It’s an investment in community well-being and the shared experiences that make Yellowknife home.”
The goal of this collaboration is to show how municipalities can work together with private sector industries in the support of public spaces.
