Five charged, weapons and crack seized in major Fort Providence bust
Part of NWT RCMP’s ‘mandate and strategic priority’ to combat illicit drug trade and organized crime, states the force
Five NWT residents are behind bars after a major RCMP operation in Fort Providence that netted 133 grams of suspected crack-cocaine, four long-guns and more this week.
Backed by the Emergency Response Team, Territorial Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services, RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on C Street in that Dehcho Region community of a few more than 600 people.
In a release Tuesday evening, RCMP stated that the search discovered: approximately 133 grams of suspected crack-cocaine; four long-guns; an imitation pistol, assorted ammunition and other drug paraphernalia.

Stated the release: This investigation reflects the G-Division RCMP’s mandate and strategic priority to combat the illicit drug trade and protect communities from the harm associated with organized crime.
Charged in connection with this incident are: 18-year-old Alexa Tale, 21-year-old Tykel Smith, 22-year-old Delvin Drybones, 53-year-old Melanie Thom and 59-year-old Darrel Gargan, all of the Northwest Territories.
They all face trafficking, possession for the purpose, possession of stolen property, and firearms offences.
They each appeared before a Justice of the Peace and were remanded into custody.
