GNWT taking applications for monument on residential school survivors
The GNWT is still not offering any specific contract, but is now searching for artists to take on the task
The application process is now open for the GNWT’s plan to build a highly visible monument to the victims and survivors of residential schools.
While the GNWT is still not ready to make any commitments or sign any contracts, they have now put out an official Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) for any artists or art groups who may wish to take on the project. At this phase, the GNWT is assessing interest and gathering information that will inform their next steps.
The GNWT is looking to receive expressions of interested from individual Indigenous artists or artist led groups that are based in the NWT. They are also hoping to hear from landscape designers and structural engineers who may be interested in providing assistance for the project. Expressions should include a profile of the artist or team, and a statement explaining the artist’s chosen medium, such as painting, sculptures, music, or sound design. Expressions should also include a written explanation of the artist’s motivation behind applying for the position.
Applicants for this project must be Indigenous artists from the NWT or Nunavut who are interested in designing a monument that honours Indigenous perspectives and lived experiences.
Applications can be sent in by email at PSSTenders@gov.nt.ca, or by phone at 867-767-9044.
