Whatì welcomes residents home Saturday morning
After a tense week out of home, watching as wildfire moved towards the Tłı̨chǫ community, the situation is now safe for re-entry
The Community Government of Whatì announced on Friday that it is now safe for all residents to begin returning home.
This decision was made by the Council of the Community Government of Whati after a careful assessment of the situation on the ground, stated a release.
Essential workers returned to Whatì today. They are working to prepare and restore critical services and infrastructure.
All other community members will begin returning Saturday starting at 10 am.
As of Wednesday, the City of Yellowknife was hosting a total of more than 400 total registered evacuees from Whatì and a few dozen from Fort Providence).
The Community of Whatì issued an evacuation order on Saturday morning, as Fire ZF048 (now 27,161 hectares) raged towards the community, on the shores of Lac la Marte.
Fort Providence remains under evacuation order.
