Paddleboarder drowns in Yellowknife’s Long Lake

The man was pulled from the water and received lifesaving efforts, but did not survive.

A 32-year-old man has drowned while paddleboarding at Long Lake in Yellowknife on Thursday evening, say RCMP.

Police received a call around 7:45 pm reporting that the man had gone under the water and did not resurface.

Officers responded and began an investigation, while the Yellowknife Fire Department and emergency medical services attended the scene.

The man was pulled from the water and received lifesaving efforts, but did not survive.

“On behalf of the City of Yellowknife and our entire community, I extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time,” stated the Mayor Ben Hendriksen. “Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy.”

RCMP say they are investigating the incident in partnership with the Coroner’s Service.
