Whatì RCMP arrest drug dealer hidden under local residence

Tips from local residents helped the RCMP locate the suspect operating out of a crawlspace

After gathering information from the residents of Whatì, RCMP officers were able to arrest an individual who was trafficking drugs in the area.

Several tips were sent in to the Whatì detachment, suggesting that the dealer was hidden in the crawlspace of a local residence.

The homeowner was unaware of the dealer’s presence, and complied with the officers, who were then able to find the den.

The search revealed around 140 grams of crack-cocaine, as well as $7,000 in cash.

The suspect, 19-year-old Jeantae Smith from Yellowknife, was also found in the crawlspace, and was arrested at the scene. He has been charged with :

  • Being unlawfully in a dwelling, and
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Smith has been brought before a Justice of the Peace, and has been returned to police custody.
