Fort Smith RCMP seize over 300 grams of suspected cocaine

Two Alberta men, aged 18 and 19, face trafficking charges

Police in Fort Smith say they have seized 311 grams of suspected cocaine from an abandoned housing unit that was being unlawfully occupied for drug trafficking activity.

According to an RCMP news release, two men were arrested and the residence was held pending a search warrant. Officers later recovered the drugs, along with $360 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

Following an investigation, 18-year-old Jarrod Gullion and 19-year-old Miguel Deschamps, both from Alberta, have been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Both men have been released with conditions, including a requirement to remain outside the Northwest Territories except for court appearances. They are expected to appear in Fort Smith court on June 11.

“Fort Smith RCMP wish to express their gratitude to community members and partners who assist police in combatting the illicit drug trade,” the release stated.
