Police in Norman Wells have charged two men after public tips led to a winter road traffic stop that yielded “over a pound” of various drugs and a firearm, stated an RCMP release.

In total, approximately 247 grams of methamphetamine, 194 grams of cocaine, and 13 grams of fentanyl were seized, stated the release.

“This seizure represents a significant disruption to the local drug trade in our remote communities and is an excellent example of police and the public working together to make the Northwest Territories safer,” stated Supt. Chris Romanchych.

“These drugs and guns may have gone on to inflict significant harm were it not for community members willing to share this vital information. I would like to sincerely thank those people who have taken ownership of the safety of their community.”

On the afternoon of March 10th, police received several reports of two suspicious individuals acting strangely in a luxury vehicle on the winter road between Norman Wells and Fort Good Hope.

Officers located the vehicle and discovered it was occupied by two Alberta men, both of whom were on court ordered conditions to remain in that province.

Both occupants were arrested, after which it was discovered one of them was in possession of a quantity of suspected cocaine.

A further search of the vehicle incidental to arrest revealed large quantities of suspected crystal meth, crack cocaine, cocaine as well as fentanyl and other paraphernalia, stated the release.

A search warrant was later obtained and executed for the vehicle, after which a concealed pistol was also located.

As a result of the investigation, 23-year-old Kyle Haman and 30-year-old Devon Comfort, both of Alberta, face several drug and firearms charges.

Haman was on bail, a probation order, and had an active warrant for his arrest out of Alberta.
