The community of Behchokǫ̀ has set a temporary alcohol prohibition for the upcoming handgames weekend.
Under the order, residents are prohibited from consuming, purchasing, selling, or transporting liquor within the restricted area.
The ban took effect at midnight on Thursday and will remain in place until midnight on March 16.
The tournament will kick off with a $30,000 bingo at the Sportsplex Centre at 7 p.m. today.
Behchokǫ̀ chief Clifford Daniels will deliver welcome remarks at the opening ceremony on Friday, followed by a prayer and fire feeding event at 9 a.m.
Throughout the four-day event, attendees can participate in handgames and enjoy activities such as arts and crafts vendors, traditional tobacco workshops, and community suppers.
