Three former chiefs have put their names forward to become the next Dehcho grand chief.

The candidates include:

  • Jim Antoine, former Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́chief and NWT premier
  • Herb Norwegian, former Dehcho First Nations chief
  • Tim Lennie, former chief of Pehdzeh Ki First Nation

CBC has reported that a fourth candidate, Ernest Tonka, was rejected for not submitting a complete application. He was missing a resume and criminal record check.

The election for a new grand chief will happen at DFN’s annual assembly scheduled for June 27-29.

Kenneth Cayen was removed as grand chief in February. Stanley Sanguez has held the position since then in the interim.
