One person sustained “serious injuries” but is in stable condition after a crash in Hay River over the weekend.

Police say the crash happened about noon on Feb. 19, when a Ford F150 truck “doing a high rate of speed” hit a smaller Ford Ranger from behind that had just turned onto Mackenzie Highway near the intersection of McBryan Dr.

“Damage to both vehicles was significant,” reads a police news release.

The Hay River fire department had to use the “jaws of life” to extract the driver of the Ford Ranger. Paramedics then brought the driver to the Hay River health centre.

The driver of the F150 had minor injuries, according to police.

RCMP says there is an ongoing investigation into the driver of the F150 driving while impaired; charges against the driver are pending.
