William Aleekuk, a 38-year-old male from Inuvik, has been charged after a shooting on Mackenzie Road.

The incident happened soon after midnight on Oct. 10 and police say they’re still investigating.

According to police, the accused and the victim knew each other.

Police have not publically identified the victim at this time.

A community member says Aleekuk “tore the stairs off the midtown market store” driving away from the scene.

Aleekuk was found shortly after near the scene of the crime.

One victim was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Aleekuk remains in custody, awaiting his court hearing on Oct. 13.

Police say there are no additional public safety concerns at this time.
