The Dehk’e Frank Channel Bridge is getting a $50 million makeover.

On Friday, MP Michael McLeod and NWT Infrastructure minister Diane Archie announced the funding.

The federal government is putting in $37.5 million, while the territory is contributing $12.5 million.

The upgraded bridge will be able to support larger loads, according to a news release.

Archie said construction will begin next year to replace the 61-year old bridge.

The new bridge is expected to open in 2024.
