The second of five public listening sessions on caribou conservation in the Sahtú will be next spring in Délı̨nę.

The session’s central question is “What should people’s role be in maintaining healthy relationships between caribou and other wildlife?”

The first listening session was in Colville Lake in January. Last month, the Ɂehdzo Got’ı̨nę Gots’ę́ Nákedı (Sahtú Renewable Resources Board) released its report and recommendations from the session. Notably, it recommended the replacement of the Total Allowable Harvest system by community conservation plans.

People interested in participating in the Délı̨nę session can sign up as registered parties by Jan. 15, 2021. Those parties must also respond to Information Requests to prepare for the session. The requests range from caribou and predator behaviour, to discussing recommendations made in the Colville Lake report.

There will also be several workshops in preparation for the listening session, beginning with an open teleconference on Dec. 16.

The Délı̨nę session will be held virtually from April 19 to 23, 2021.

The full list of workshops and Information Requests is below.
