Two people and three dogs were rescued near Inuvik after their vehicle went through ice.

In an RCMP press release, police say they received a report around 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 16, that two people were stranded after their vehicle fell through the ice on a waterway, about 35 kms outside of Inuvik near Little Bombardier Channel.

Police, alongside community searchers, Inuvik Ground Search and Rescue, and Parks Canada located the individuals, the release says.

Both individuals were unharmed.

RCMP were also able to provide transportation for the individuals’ three dogs.

The press release reminds people to use extreme caution when travelling on the land and on waterways in the midst of freezing up.
