The Tłı̨chǫ Government is developing a new way of gathering.

“It would be unsafe for the Tłı̨chǫ Nation to gather together in 2020,” said organizers of the Tłı̨chǫ annual assembly in a news release.

Since the Tłı̨chǫ Government has officially canceled its annual in-person assembly for July 7-9, 2020 in Wekweètì.

“The Chief Executive Council is set to meet tomorrow to discuss plans and have a presentation about its options. By next week we should have an answer,” says Henry Zoe senior director, governance Tłı̨chǫ Government

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, community leaders must adapt and find alternative methods to share and gather information safely.

“These are unprecedented times and we face a pandemic the likes of which have not been seen in our lifetimes. Every effort must be made to keep Tłı̨chǫ citizens and our communities safe,” says Grand Chief Mackenzie.

Organizers say the new format will continue to ensure the availability of reports and financial statement for Tłı̨chǫ citizens. While also giving Tłı̨chǫ citizens the chance to ask questions of Tłı̨chǫ Government and institutions.
