There are two high profile court appearances in Yellowknife today.

At 2:30 – 50 year old Peter Tsetta of Ndilo is to be in Supreme Court to be sentenced after he was found guilty earlier this year of two counts of sexual assault and one count of forcible confinement.

Court heard that Tsetta held two women against their will in 2017 and sexually assaulted them.

One of his victims – Cynthia Grandjambe of Yellowknife – made headlines earlier this fall when she bravely had the judge lift the publication ban on her name so that she could tell her story and help other women who may be going through the same kind of trauma that she did.

Tsetta’s other victim died before the trial began but her videotaped statement to RCMP was used against him at trial.

Following tha, a Hay River man, Levi Cayen is to appear in the same courtroom.

He is charged with murder in the death in late 2017 of Alex Norwegian in Hay River.

Cayen is charged along with James Thomas of Hay River in the death of Norwegian who was found in his car with little clothing where he reportedly froze to death.

A judge is to rule on a technical issue involving the potential jury pool.

Cayen’s trial is set to begin in January.
